What the labels mean
Softer feel
Usually more surface give and a more cushioned sensation.
Medium feel
A middle-ground feel to compare against softer and firmer options.
Firmer feel
Usually less surface give and a more stable, on-top feeling.
There is no single industry-wide firmness scale. A firmness label is not a quality score, and the firmest option is not automatically the best choice.
Make your showroom visit count
- Try your usual sleeping position rather than only sitting on the edge.
- Notice whether turning over feels comfortable.
- Compare on a similar base to the one you plan to use.
- If sharing, try together and discuss the feel each person prefers.
Useful questions to ask
Is this the same model and tension as the one I am ordering? Does the displayed price cover my chosen size? Will my existing base work with it?
Matty’s finder can narrow the mattress collection by feel, size and budget. It is a starting point for shopping, not a medical assessment.
