YOUR ELIGIBILITY CHECK

Let’s check the basics.

There are no preselected answers. This is guidance; the team confirms relief for the actual purchase.

Who are you buying for?

If you are helping someone, answer the next questions about the person who will use the item.

Which statement applies to that person?

An impairment must have a long-term, substantial effect on everyday activities. No diagnosis is needed here. If unsure about a condition, ask a medical adviser.

Is the item for their personal or domestic use?

Business use and goods used in care or treatment provided by a hospital or care home are outside this personal-use relief.

What sort of product are you considering?

A bed needs specialist disability-related features; a riser-recliner needs a lift function. A mattress must be included in one supply of a qualifying bed or designed solely for disabled people. UC Beds must check the exact model.

Your answers are used only on this page. Nothing is submitted to UC Beds or HMRC, and no prices are changed.

GOOD TO KNOW

VAT relief, explained.

Who can qualify?

A lasting impairment that substantially affects everyday activities, or a medically recognised chronic illness, can meet the customer requirement. Being older, or having only a temporary injury, does not. Disability registration and benefits are not required. The goods must be for the individual’s personal or domestic use.

Which beds, chairs and mattresses can qualify?

Specialist adjustable beds need disability-related design features beyond adjustment alone. Riser-recliner chairs need a lifting function. A mattress must be part of a single supply of a qualifying bed, or designed solely for disabled people.

Ordinary beds, mattresses, sofas and recliners do not qualify just because they are comfortable or helpful. UC Beds must confirm the manufacturer’s evidence for the exact product.

Can I buy for someone else?

You can answer for the person who will use the item. A responsible representative may help with their declaration. Tell the team if you are purchasing for a charity or organisation, as that needs a separate assessment.

What happens to my declaration?

You can prepare and print it here, then sign it and give it to UC Beds. It is not submitted online or sent to HMRC. The supplier keeps the declaration with its VAT records; completing it does not establish that the product qualifies.

Will this checker reduce my basket price?

No. Your result is an initial check. UC Beds needs to review your declaration and the exact goods first. The checker leaves all catalogue and basket prices unchanged.
