Common UK mattress sizes. Bed-frame measurements can be larger. Always check the dimensions of the actual mattress and base together.
Give your bed room to breathe
Mark out the full bed-frame footprint on the floor with removable tape. Walk around it and try opening wardrobes, drawers and bedroom doors.
If you share, compare how much sleeping space each size gives you. A king is 15 cm wider and 10 cm longer than a double; a super king adds another 30 cm of width to a king.
- Measure the mattress recess if you are keeping an existing frame.
- Check the height of the bed and headboard against windows, sockets and sloping ceilings.
- Leave room for drawers to open or an ottoman lid to lift.
The same size name can mean different measurements
These are common UK mattress dimensions, not the outside dimensions of a bed. European and other imported sizes may differ. Match the measurements on the actual mattress and frame before ordering.
For bunks, cabin beds or adjustable bases, also check the manufacturer’s requirements for mattress depth, weight and compatibility.
