Measure the room and the route
- Note the full width, depth and height of the sofa.
- Check the seat depth and height when you try it.
- Mark its footprint and keep doors and walking routes clear.
- For a recliner or sofa bed, check the space needed when fully open.
- Confirm the packaged dimensions and whether any parts can be removed.
Look beyond the seat count
Two sofas described as three seaters may have very different overall widths. Broad arms, deep seats and chaise sections all affect how a piece fits.
For a corner or chaise sofa, confirm which side extends when you are facing it. Use a labelled plan or photo rather than relying on “left” or “right” alone.
Choose for everyday life
Try the seat, back and arm height. Ask about the fabric care instructions and whether cushions are removable or reversible. If matching other furniture, compare a fabric sample in your room where available.
For clearance pieces, inspect the actual item and record its condition, included parts and agreed delivery arrangements before purchasing.
