Start with a simple floor plan
Draw the walls, doors, windows and other furniture. Mark the full width and the depth of both sides of your chosen sofa. A corner sofa can fit along the wall but still interrupt the route through the room.
Use masking tape or paper on the floor to try the footprint. Include the space needed to walk past it and reach nearby cupboards. Check the low parts of a sloping ceiling as well as the floor area.
Check the corner direction
Left- or right-hand corner
The label describes a particular arrangement, but diagrams and naming conventions vary. Confirm the orientation using the product drawing and the room plan.
Universal or reversible
Some models let you position the return on either side. Check the instructions; do not assume that every corner sofa can be reversed.
U-shaped
Measure both returns and the central section, including the space between the returns and your coffee table.
Think about delivery in sections
- Ask how many sections arrive and the largest packaged dimensions.
- Measure the entrance, hall, stairs and any tight turns.
- Check whether legs or backs are designed to be removed.
- Confirm how sections connect and whether setup is included.
Compare like for like
Compare the same layout, fabric and functions when looking at prices. A picture of a large configuration may also appear on a smaller option. Check the selected product name, included pieces, seat depth and storage or bed mechanism.
For a sofa bed or recliner, also measure its fully open footprint. Bring your measurements when you speak to the UC Beds team.
